Federal Govt Announces – Gas is Key Through to 2050 and Beyond
Today the Federal Resources Minister announced the government’s new Future Gas Strategy, confirming what we have been saying for some time: Natural Gas will remain a crucial energy source in Australia for decades to come, as an essential contributor to our pathway to Net Zero emissions.
Let’s be clear:
- Gas is not going away.
- Gas remains a cleaner and cheaper alternative for heating your home than switching to electric appliances which depend on coal-fired electricity.
- Gas is still a smart choice for your home, for the energy grid, and for the environment.
Resources Minister Madeleine King says the strategy would help underpin Prime Minister Albanese’s Future Made in Australia agenda: NCA NewsWire / Naomi Jellicoe.
Ms King says:
“Gas will be a key energy source “through to 2050 and beyond” and play a critical role in helping Australia meet its net zero target while providing cheap and reliable power, according to a new reform blueprint aimed at cementing its role in the future energy mix.”
“Gas plays a crucial role in supporting our economy, with the sector employing 20,000 people across the country, including remote and regional communities,” she said. “The strategy makes it clear that gas will remain an important source of energy through to 2050 and beyond, and its uses will change as we improve industrial energy efficiency, firm renewables and reduce emissions.”
