There are many different evaporative cooling systems available in the market. Seeley International designs and manufactures two main types of evaporative cooling technologies: Direct Evaporative cooling and M-cycle Indirect evaporative cooling.
In this page we will try summarizing the main characteristics of different technologies and the main advantages of each one.
All types of evaporative coolers do not use any sort of chemical refrigerants to cool the air. R718 is the only refrigerant used in evaporative cooling systems, that is WATER! The only power consuming parts of an evaporative cooler are the motor and a water pump.
For these reasons, evaporative air cooling uses between up to 87% less energy than conventional A/C. That all adds up to very responsible environmental and energy saving characteristics.
All evaporative cooling systems improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), drawing 100% fresh outside air, which is never recirculated. Ventilation is key to prevent germs and viruses spread, but also in production facilities involving solvents, chemicals, etc…
All systems based on evaporative (or adiabatic) cooling work best when temperature is at its highest. Unlike conventional A/C system, whose performance drops as temperature rises, it is exactly in that condition that EER of evaporative coolers rises (as energy consumption stays the same).
Now that we have highlighted the main characteristics of all evaporative cooling technologies, we can describe the evaporative cooling systems designed by Seeley International: Direct and M-cycle Indirect evaporative cooling.
M-cycle indirect evaporative cooling technology embedded in The Climate Wizard uses a patented heat-exchanger core to provide fresh, cooled, outside air not adding moisture!
Moreover, it can reach temperatures that rival those of refrigerated systems, while saving up to 80% energy. In fact, it can cool below the wet-bulb temperature of outside air.
Not adding moisture to the air stream, The Climate Wizard units can be coupled to conventional air conditioning systems for extra savings.
If you still think it is not possible to cool with water not adding moisture, Visit this page to understand how M-cycle works!
The Climate Wizard Features
Airflow: 2,880 – 30.600 m3/h
Cooling capacity: 18 – 214 kW
Total power consumption: 1.5 – 14.2 kW
COP: 12 – 19
Seeley International has been designing direct evaporative coolers for 50 years, including releasing the first all-plastic evaporative cooler in the world!
We continue to proudly manufacture evaporative coolers with highest performance, robustness and durability.
In a direct evaporative cooler, air is drawn from outside with a powerful fan. Passing wetted cooling pads it is naturally cooled and then pushed inside the building via a ducting system.
Breezair Features
Breezair by Seeley International offers full series of high performing and world leading direct evaporative coolers.
Whether you need cooling for medium or large commercial applications, industrial plants or in general large areas, award winning Breezair brand provides uncompromising safety, reliability, comfort and energy-efficiency.
Breezair is the world’s coolest, quietest and most energy efficient evaporative cooler. Seeley International uses its NATA laboratory to accredited tests results to substantiate superior performance against competitive products and systems.
Coolair Features
Coolair offers a series of cost effective fixed evaporative coolers ideal for industrial and commercial applications. Produced by Australia’s largest and most awarded air conditioning manufacturer, it offers the value for money to cool air at a low running cost, without compromising on quality.
Cost affordable solutions, energy efficiency, while having the same durable and reliable products offered by Seeley International.
Evaporative cooling systems are based on water evaporation. This means that cooling performance is impacted by outdoor relative humidity.
Generally speaking, the drier is the outdoor air, the better is the evaporative coolers’ performance. However, we also need to remember that what creates human comfort is not the temperature, but also the air velocity.
It is also important to consider that humidity depends on the temperature. Specifically, during the portion of the day when temperatures are higher, relative humidity is lower. It is during these hot times that cooling is much more needed and it corresponds to the period when evaporative coolers work at their best (when relative humidity is lower). This time also correspond to working hours: this is why many companies decide to adopt evaporative cooling systems.
Another very stubborn misconception is that evaporative coolers create airborne mist: nothing could be further from the truth. We should not confuse evaporative coolers with misting systems, as they involve a different technology.
Evaporative cooling system working principle is based on water evaporation and energy exchange. For this reason Direct Evaporative Coolers marginally increase humidity. But we need to think that temperature has dropped significantly and that human comfort is a combination between humidity and temperature.
Moreover, we need to remember that we are not only drawing air inside the building. We are also extracting hot, humid, stale air from doors, windows or through mechanical extraction.
However, if humidity is still an issue, you can still opt for an M-cycle indirect evaporative cooler, that decreases temperatures using water evaporation, but not adding any moisture to the air.
