Support student well-being with innovative HVAC solution

Nestled in the picturesque St Yves Estate, Trinity College is a brand-new educational institution designed to inspire learning and community engagement. The campus boasts state-of-the-art classrooms, a full-size oval, a soccer pitch, and indoor facilities for basketball, netball, and tennis. Additional amenities include a spacious hall, a modern canteen, and vibrant playgrounds, all contributing to a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
The HVAC system is a cornerstone of the school’s infrastructure, specifically catering to the multifunctional community and sports hall. This versatile space serves not only as a venue for sports but also as a hub for additional educational activities, requiring a reliable and efficient system to maintain comfort year-round for various events and purposes.

Project Requirements

The project aims to install and integrate Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) and gas heating units to provide year-round comfort for students. The system is required to enhance Indoor Air Quality through continuous ventilation by introducing fresh outside air into the recirculating air, regardless of whether heating or cooling is needed. Given the limited electrical capacity in the area, a highly efficient gas heater must be integrated to optimize energy efficiency and maintain comfort levels during colder periods.

1. Installation of standalone 3 x Climate Wizard Return Air IEC (Indirect Evaporative Cooler) units:
• Install 3 Climate Wizard Return Air IEC (Indirect Evaporative Cooler) units to deliver dedicated cooling.
• Ensure the system maintains a cool temperature and high indoor air quality in the large community/sports hall while accommodating large groups of students and parents.
• The system must operate independently to optimize energy efficiency, provide redundancy during maintenance, and offer control flexibility.

2. Duct Heaters Integration with IEC System for the sport\community hall:
• Integrate gas heaters with the IEC system to provide heating capacity as needed. Ensure seamless operation of both the gas heaters and IEC system to maintain the desired climate control parameters.

3. Maintain a high standard of indoor air quality:
• Continuously introduce no less than 30% fresh outside air to ventilate the sports/community hall, ensuring sufficient air circulation to maintain a high level of indoor air quality when fully occupied.

4. Control and Interface Requirements:
• Ensure complete local independent control of all units to provide redundancy during maintenance. Integrate all units into the Building Management System (BMS) for centralized control and monitoring.

The Solution

Installing Seeley International’s new Climate Wizard XR Series, an innovative and advanced Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) unit with return air capabilities as a standalone solution. These units deliver optimal standalone cooling performance with exceptional energy efficiency. The system is complemented by high-capacity gas heaters integrated into the HVAC system to
provide temperature control year-round.

The Climate Wizard XR units installed, uses a modulating damper which cycles between 100% outside fresh air and return air. This optimise energy consumption while maintaining indoor
air quality, creating a low-cost solution while managing occupant comfort through a healthy environment. The consistent introduction of fresh air, effectively dilutes and displaces harmful
particulate matter, reduces CO2 levels, and minimizes volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

All installed IEC systems are centrally managed by integrating each unit’s controller with the building management system (BMS). This integration enables full control over system settings,
performance monitoring, and operational flexibility. Additionally, while integrated into the BMS, these units can also be locally controlled, offering enhanced operational flexibility, control, and redundancy. This ensures tailored comfort and optimized energy management across all spaces.
