A new headquarters for the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) has been built at Mile End to complement existing athletics and netball stadiums and create a world class high-performance hub for sport. The new facility will provide South Australia with state-of-the-art training facilities and leading-edge integrated technologies.
The new SASI complex will include:
• Strength and conditioning gym capable of accommodating multiple sports and teams
• Specially designed indoor court with smart technology
• Sport specific ergometer training zones
• Indoor bounding areas
• Environment chamber for simulated heat, humidity and altitude stress training
Project Requirements
The project aims to install and integrate Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) units to improve energy efficiency, air quality, and comfort levels for two specific spaces: a Court and a Movement Studio.
The Solution
The installation of an advanced Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) system as a standalone solution for the court to ensure optimal cooling performance with high energy efficiency. The system is supplemented with high-capacity ducted heaters, integrated into the IEC, providing precise temperature control throughout the court, even in cooler months.
For the adjacent Movement Studio, an IDEC system designed to pre-cool incoming outside air was installed. This will enhance indoor comfort, particularly during high activity periods, while maintaining energy efficiency and reducing cooling loads.
All installed IEC\IDEC systems are centrally controlled by seamlessly integrating each unit’s PLC controller, with the building management systems (BMS), allowing full control over system settings, performance monitoring, and operational flexibility. This ensures tailored comfort and energy management across all spaces.
