Seeley International staff were among tens of thousands of people across Australia to participate in this year’s twilight Light the Night walk and carry lanterns in memory of those who have been lost to leukaemia and to help raise money for a cure.
Seeley International Founder and Chairman, Mr Frank Seeley AM, said that while the organisation had been supporting the Leukaemia Foundation’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers since 2008, this year’s event offered special significance.
“This year, our involvement was especially poignant, as we remembered our friend and Deputy Chairman of Seeley International, Mr David Munt, who recently lost his battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia,” My Seeley said.
“We are proud to have been the Founding Sponsor of the Leukaemia Foundation’s Light the Night initiative in South Australia, and now as the Major National Partner we remain delighted to support the Leukaemia Foundation’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers,” he said.
“It was rewarding to see so many of our staff participate, and with more than 50,000 Australian families having to face the challenges of blood cancer every day the fact is that everyone is likely to know someone who has in some way been impacted.”
In September and October every year the Leukaemia Foundation holds more than 30 events across Australia to raise money and give hope to people affected by leukaemia, with participants lighting a gold balloon to remember a loved one, a white balloon to celebrate being a blood cancer survivor or a blue balloon to give hope.
“Light the Night is a truly inspirational event and Seeley International appreciates the chance to help the Leukaemia Foundation support those with blood cancers, and strengthen the prospect of making a cure become a reality,” Mr Seeley said.
“It has also been very humbling to see the ongoing support from Seeley International’s Australasian dealers, who have also been involved with Light the Night since the very beginning,” he said.
“At our annual Dealer Conference back in 2001 we started a tradition to auction a bottle of Braemar Scotch, and since then that unopened bottle of Scotch has been auctioned every year to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation and children’s charities around the world.”
It was at this year’s annual Dealer Conference that the $10 bottle of scotch achieved the milestone of having raised more than $1m for charities, including the Leukaemia Foundation.
